NAPT utilizes and relies on selected pivot labs to provide initial characterization and ongoing calibrations of proficiency test artifacts throughout the life of each proficiency testing kit. In appreciation for the commitment to providing these calibrations, a pivot lab is entitled to receive a free membership for each year it serves as a pivot lab, qualifying them for all discounts and benefits a NAPT membership brings. They also can receive a report at no charge for the kit for which they serve as the pivot. In return, NAPT may require a pivot lab to provide up to three sets of data for the artifact(s) in the kit. Pivot labs are also expected to give NAPT an estimated timeframe for performing the requested calibration and for honoring the timeframe to the best of their ability. The pivot lab will be required to assign a technical expert who can assist in the evaluation of any data submitted by the pivot lab to NAPT.
